Sources of funding for assistive devices

SEARCH FUNDING SOURCES This link will open in a new window.

Are you protecting an incapable person who needs help with locomotion, hearing, telephone or other needs? There are several programs that cover the cost of these devices, either in part or entirely. We have developed an interactive electronic directory for you that lists the main sources of funding available. It also contains suggestions for further research.

How to use the directory

What is an assistive device?

A product, instrument, device or technical system designed to correct, compensate for, alleviate or neutralize a deficit or impairment, or prevent or reduce a disability, e.g. wheelchairs, orthoses, prosthetic limbs, incontinence pants, eyeglasses.

On this page, click SEARCH FUNDING SOURCES and select a device, piece of equipment or technical aid that corresponds to the needs of the person you represent. Next, select the type of accommodation that best matches the person's situation (home, hospital, private residential facility or other). When your search results are displayed just click the hyperlinks. They will take you either:

  • to the site of the government department or agency in charge of the program; OR
  • to contact information for the service points likely to provide you with the desired information (e.g., local employment centre of the city or neighbourhood in which the represented person resides; general information department of the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec or the Department of Veterans Affairs of Canada).

To be eligible for financial assistance, you must meet the criteria for the program in question (e.g., worker's compensation program, social assistance or home support).
