The Curateur public exercises powers conferred upon it by the Public Curator Act (R.S.Q. c. C-81), the Civil Code and other legislation. In the course of performing its duties, the Curateur public:

NOTE. When choosing a lawyer, the represented person’s wish to retain the services of a lawyer of his choice will be respected insofar as possible.

The fees for a lawyer hired by the Curateur public when the latter is acting in the capacity of tutor or curator are the following:

|0 to 5 years||$100|
|6 to 10 years||$150|
|More than 10 years||$200|
In some cases, the Curateur public may decide to pay a lump sum rather than an hourly rate.
The fees for a lawyer who is hired by the Curateur public as a public officer are set according to the Tariff of fees for professional services provided to the Government by advocates or notaries.

Travel costs are set according to the Conseil du trésor’s Directive concernant les frais de déplacement des personnes engagées à honoraires par des organismes publics (CQLR, c.A-6r.31).
